Just sharing my latest little project - I made some pens on the lathe. They came out pretty good for my first try at it, I haven't turned any wood in over a year so it was all a bit rusty to me. I made three pens, one from Purple Heart wood, one from Red Oak wood, and one from Buck Eye Burl wood (the best out of all of them - the one in the middle) so here they are :)
In other news (as there usually is) I put a new table top on the CNC machine and added some aluminum t-track slots so I can clamp things down easier - I also made two clamping jig things and milled them while on the CNC so I can use them to make sure boards are lined up straight with the CNC - this came in hand on my latest project (article coming soon) where I needed to route channels in long 2X6 boards. Here's a pic of the latest look at my homemade CNC machine!

Here's a look at the Monster in a Box Halloween prop that I made. It uses a Parallax Propeller prototype board as it's "Brain" to control several different things - Check it out!
Well it's been awhile since I've posted - Sorry about that! I know you're all hanging on the edge of your seats waiting for my posts! ;)
On my side of the wall I decided to go with the french (pinch?) cleats for hanging stuff, it's flexible and easy to put up. If you can see on the concrete wall on the left I have the computer and CNC controller hanging on a cleat, and I've made a few hangers so far for my wrenches - but there's lots more to make! I also turned my homemade CNC machine along the wall to give me a little more area next to it. Right now the Reprap 3D printer is sitting on the CNC machine - it's awaiting a proper permanent home (that means I'm trying to figure out where to put it!) LOL
Ok that's it for this post - stay tuned because I need to finish that MIAB project before Halloween! So I should be posting the completed project soon! :)

Just messing around with the Parallax Propeller I plan on using for my latest project (more to come on that when I get a little further along) :)
So this testing is to see if the Prop can simultaneously drive 8 relays and at the same time run a stepper motor through it's paces. In addition to that it's changing MP3s on an MP3 player and reading a Ping sensor and reporting the distance to a serial terminal on the computer
As you can see - the prop handles this no problem :) Lovin the Parallax Propeller micro controller!

I've been wanting to mill out a circuit board for a while now - finally got around to it! :)
I had made a tailstock for my 4th Axis a while back and it recently broke (it was made from MDF LOL) so here's how I made my new 4th Axis Tailstock that I made with my homemade Reprap 3D Printer! :)
Well in seeing how tough the previous 3D printed gears were, I broke them :) so they were not that tough! LOL
So here's version 2.5 of the gears - I made everything beefier and also put two stages of planetary gears in there for more torque, less backlash, and just all around coolness :)
Well I'm finally getting around to writing about the Maker Faire! :)
I had a blast at the Faire, I didn't get a chance to ake it around during the event to see all the cool stuff - it seemed everybody and their brother wanted to talk about the 3D Printers and so i was pretty much talking all day long - except for when we were outside casting aluminum :) I think next time I need to bring at least one person to help me - that way I can go around at least once and talk to all the people :)
They let Ron and I do an aluminum casting demo. Ron did a sand casting - casting a bracket that he'd made out of wood. It came out perfect! I did a demonstration of lost foam casting (since that's my favorite) and I went to Michaels and bought one of the foam skulls they sell for halloween decorations - I glued a sprue on at the base and buried it in the play sand in a bucket :) There is definetly a picture of it in the pictures and videos below...
The skull came out with a rough texture as expected, but held the shape of the skull really well - overall it was a great "wow" factor :)
